Collisions of Consciousness

Collisions of Consciousness is an ongoing series of work inspired by an old box of original Barbie dolls with a large collection of clothes. Extensive research about play in general and Barbie in particular brought about this work and inspired a collaborative video.
Barbie is now being played with by her second generation of children, The dress is styled as an original Barbie wedding dress but covered with rusty lizards with Barbie hands and feet. The Barbie faces with shiny black eyes and Elizabethan style collars look out, as in a portrait of Queen Elizabeth 1st. wearing a dress covered in eyes and ears, hanging in Hatfield House. Children hear and see far more than we think as they play, dreaming of the future, making sense of the past and quite often blanking out the present. We often catch ourselves repeating our own mothers words. By trying to protect our children are we not just sometimes avoiding our own fears.
